The validity of the Darwin legacy

Through his immense work, Darwin not only showed that life is an evolutionary phenomenon –or that living beings and their diverse manifestations are better explained within an evolutionary framework rather than with a creationist worldview– but also developed groundbreaking causal explanations, such as his theory of natural selection. One hundred and fifty years after the publication of his magnum opus, The Origin of Species, Darwin’s theory of evolution is both a beautiful monument to intellectual thought and a useful scientific framework, one that allows us to integrate our ever increasing understanding of life’s complexity and diversity. Furthermore, it remains a scientific theory with many diverse applications. Unfortunately, there is still strong opposition to its human corollaries; that is, to the consequences stemming from a natural and secular view of our origin and evolution as an animal species.
