Sènies Reflections on the agricultural lands protection. From Gallecs to the Cinc Sènies Here we provide an assessment on the current status of the agricultural lands surrounding the Barcelona metropolitan area. Our evaluation addresses the following concerns: the need to protect peri-urban agricultural lands; the relationship between land and agriculture; public use of agricultural lands; and the need for an integrated management system serving the Barcelona metropolitan area. Three main issues have emerged this assessment: whether or not to protect agricultural lands from urban expansion; the importance of establishing entities to properly care for and manage these areas; and finally, to initiate new links between society and agricultural lands. |
