Hygrophilous and mesophilous woods of the basin of Pineda de Mar Creek.

The wood communities belonging to the Fagetalia sylvaticae order present in the basin of Pineda Creek, located in the southeastern sides of the Montnegre Massif, have been studied. I have made over fifty phytosociologic surveys of alder, hazel, and laurel woods that grow in this land, of which 37 have been considered in this study. Three syntaxa have been detected. Firstly, alder wood with comfrey (Lamio-Alnetum glutinosae) that grows in the shores of water courses of more or less regular flow. Secondly, hazel wood with brackens (Polysticho-Coryletum subass. prunetosum avium variant of Carex sylvatica subsp. paui), in the basis of humid slopes, northern hollows, and headwaters. In third place, we find laurel woods that still have a significant amount of plants of the hazel wood on banks fitted between mountain slopes and on confined headwaters. For this reason, I propose the inclusion of these laurel woods in the Polysticho-Coryletum as a variant enriched with laurel (variant of Laurus nobili).
For each community, there are stated the distribution within the study area, the ecological requirements, the structure and the floristic composition. Biological and corologic spectra have been also calculated and have been compared among the studied communities and with those of other alder and hazel woods of neighbor areas. Moreover, the specific richness, the number of taxa per surface unit, and the Shannon diversity index have been calculated.
