Flora and vegetation landscape around the Maresme coast.

The littoral has been especially impacted by human occupation and related activities. Nowadays, the Maresme coast (eastern Catalonia) is highly affected by urban impairment. In this landscape, the vegetation has been deeply modified and has very little in common with its original natural state. In order to know the current status and density of the plants and vegetation along the Maresme coast, a systematic prospecting has been conducted to examine and identify the remaining original vegetation. Presence and density of plants characteristic of the littoral have been surveyed based on the minimum reference unit of 1 x 1 km in the UTM grid; 12 different maps are included. In order to provide an historical and dynamic perspective, data have been analyzed considering previous studies, specially the flora written by Pere Montserrat. Finally, we provide some guidelines for a landscape management that allow the restoration of vegetation communities towards their natural state.
