Ecosistemes de Catalunya J. Montasell. Els espais agraris de la regió metropolitana de Barcelona. This study is organized in two different parts. The first part address the increasing pressure that urban areas exert over the countryside located around them in Europe. Then, a geographic approach is followed by analyzing this increasing pressure within the context of Catalonia, as an example of a European region, giving final insights into the metropolitan region of Barcelona. The second part of this study provides some examples regarding to this approach showing that while some sectors are against territorial conflicts that are result of the “local revival”, others such as the farm sector and a part of the society are in favour of them. In favour of continue having fields for farming and have the right to cultivate fields. This study underlines thirteen initiatives of the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona, some of them not conducted yet, that reflect certain concern in front of the loss of the best crop fields. |
